The Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) concepts of patient centered care, evidence- based practice, teamwork and collaboration, quality improvement, safety and informatics will be applied in a practicum setting. Seminar and application activities will focus on development of professional nursing behaviors. Course Objectives: The Course will 1. Analyze the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to make clinical judgments to deliver patient-centered care in diverse healthcare environments. 2. Assist the student to critically examine the evidence for current nursing practice utilizing technology and information management when planning patient care. 3. Compare strategies that foster effective team functioning. 4. Facilitate the student’s ability to recognize patient safety risks and intervene to promote patient safety. 5. Evaluate quality improvement measures and the impact on patient care. 6. Evaluate professional nursing behaviors that incorporate the core values of the profession while enhancing personal development and accountability. Student Learning Outcomes/Program Outcomes: The Student will 1. Integrate knowledge, skills and attitudes when using the nursing process to make clinical judgments to provide compassionate and culturally-sensitive patient-centered care. 2. Incorporate information and technology with a spirit of inquiry to support evidence-based nursing clinical judgment. 3. Function effectively in an effort to promote human flourishing as a member of the inter- professional team by collaborating and communicating with patients, support systems/families and the community. 4. Provide a caring, comforting and protective nursing environment, by consistently demonstrating nursing practice that reduces risk potential and promotes patient safety. 5. Examine data, monitor outcomes, and implement methods to improve quality of care for patients, patient support systems/families and the community. 6. Model the professional identity of the nurse as a manager of care, educator, advocate, mentor, and leader. Grading Procedure: The grading for this course (NUR 203) is pass no points (PNP)/fail no credit (FNC). 1. To receive a passing grade, the following criteria must be fulfilled: • Satisfactory completion of all homework assignments. • Punctual attendance and participation in all seminars. • Successful completion of ATI Comprehensive Predictor Testing and remediation as outlined in the ATI comprehensive testing and remediation policy. • A satisfactory score for each outcome on the NUR 203 Clinical Evaluation Tool. • A satisfactory score in all clinical behaviors on the Faculty Evaluation of Student in NUR 203. 2.
