IR shared via CourseHero.com Spectroscopy, melting point range, and percent yield were used to identify the chalcone product. Balanced Reaction: Mechanism: Results: 1.01g of the pale yellow, liquid benzaldehyde #2 and 1.02g of the white, solid acetophenone #3 crystals were ground with two solid NaOH pellets, which immediately turned a yellow color and had a pasty consistency. The reaction was grinded for 10 more minutes until the product was completely solidified and then 10mL of distilled water was added. Vacuum filtration was used to obtain the crude product.
