Depression can be caused by losing a loved one, break up, getting laid off from your job, family issues, or even being bullied at school. Not only do adults go through depression but children and adolescents do too. Depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the U.S Studies show that about 6.7 percent of Americans are diagnosed with depression disorder in each year. Today, depression is estimated to affect 350 million people. The symptoms of depression are feeling of sadness, hopelessness, unmotivated, not wanting to do anything at all for instance, majority of the time most people sleep all day due to this illness. It can also make you feel suicidal. According to the article “Depression A Global Public Health Concern” Almost 1 million lives are lost yearly due to suicide, which translates to 3000 suicide deaths every day. For every person who completes a suicide, 20 or more may attempt to end his or her life. There are also more depression disorders such as Major depression, major depressive episodes may occur once or twice in a lifetime, or they may recur frequently. Another depression disorder is persistent depressive disorder (PDD). PDD is a form of depression that usually continues for at least two years. Although it is less severe than major depression, it involves the same symptoms as major depression, mainly low energy, poor appetite or overeating, and insomnia or oversleeping.
