Tank Battery Generally, what comes out of the well is a mixture of oil, water, gas and even sand. Therefore, surface equipment is designed to separate and store the fluids produced from the well for... marketing or disposal. On an oil well, the surface equipment is used to remove water and solids from the oil so the oil can be sold ($$$$). On a gas well, the surface equipment is designed to remove liquids from the gas stream so the gas can be sold ($$$$). A Tank Battery is a device used to store crude oil which is produced from a well. There are numerous configurations customized for each well and the two basic configuration is a Heater Treater, one storage tank for water, and two storage tanks for crude oil. Metering equipment is utilized to sell directly into gas pipelines and can be used to sell directly into oil pipelines. 2 Phase Separator A separator is a large pressure vessel designed to separate production fluids into their constituent components of oil, gas and water.
