The CDC projects an estimateofone-in-threeadultstohavediabetesby 2050.Diabetes imposes a large economic burden on the economy and the healthcaresystem.AmericanDiabetesAssociation(ADA)(2014)estimatedthat diabetesbringapproximately$69bilionlossinproductivityand$176bilionin directmedicalcosts.AccordingtoVirginiaHealthDepartment(2015),755,469 Virginianshavediabetes,that’sabout1outofevery11people.Ofthose755, 469 diabetics,twenty five percentare due to endogenous factors and thirty eightpercenttoexogenousfactors.Virginiahasthe22nd highestdiabetesrate inthenationwithadeathrateof18.4per100,000.Theageadjusteddiabetes deathrateforPrinceWiliam Countyaloneis16.4per100,000.Although diabetescannotbepreventedentirelyduetogeneticsusceptibility,butinmost changes to the environmentand raising awareness wilhelp reduce the occur rence of diabetes in our population and com m unities.
