He planned on following Siddhartha on his path since Siddhartha felt empty when it came to his future and was not satisfied with the path of being a Brahmin. At the beginning of their journey, they joined the samanas in hopes they would be able to show them the path of finding his Atman, which simply means individual soul. Siddhartha and Govinda had different plans on how to reach enlightenment and how to gain the feeling of enlightenment. During their time as a Samana, Siddhartha was not satisfied like Govinda with the outcomes of a Samana.
