In the short stories “Recitatif” by Toni Morrison and Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use”, both possess a character that undergoes a transformation of identity, ascribable to race and class. This is explored through the use of parallelism between herself and her friend, Twyla and highlights their progressing differences as they grow older.
