Grand Canyon University April 2, 2017 SIGNIFICANCE OF HOURLY ROUNDING 2 Abstract Staff responsiveness and patient satisfaction may be correlated; when patients rate staff high on responsiveness, they are more likely to be satisfied with their care. Hospital reimbursement and ratings are impacted by patient satisfaction scores. Based on current research it is safe to suggest that purposeful hourly rounding on the patients can be linked with how well patient care is being delivered and how the patient sees the care as well as a reduction in the events that have to do with safety. Implementing an hourly rounding protocol involves a major change in nursing staff workflow and a substantial training and education program to ensure the success of the program conducting an hourly rounding program system includes a change in nursing staff workflow as well as an adequate training program to make sure that the implementation results in a success. . Studies have demonstrated that if a standardized hourly rounding process is implemented by adequate and effective program, results in better safety, quality, efficiency, and overall satisfaction of patients. For successful implementation of this process, staff education, training, and accountability are required .The program can be implemented using a systematic review of published literature and grade analysis of evidence regarding nursing rounds. There is ample evidence that hourly rounding programs improve patients’ perception of nursing responsiveness and that these programs reduce patient falls and call light use. Key words: Purposeful Hourly Rounding; Patient Satisfaction; Staff Responsiveness Problem Description Significance of Hourly Rounding in Health Care Institutions for Enhancing the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Health Care Services Healthcare organizations are facing problems that had risen recently at alarming rates wherein there are large amounts of complaints coming from patients because of bad management and monitoring processes. Patients also have brought up that a few health care professionals have come across as though they have no interest towards the work they do and come across in such a manner (Kessler 2012). Because of this, it is important to adhere to all of the patients need and make sure they are taken care of. It is also important that the healthcare professionals are well aware of their responsibilities and adhere to the patients as much as they can. Management and monitoring efforts have to be restructured and more effective. Because of the lack of management, health care professionals are often found multitasking with their personal phone calls while interacting with a patient. Apart from being unprofessional, patients have also reported that the professionals are weak to respond to call bells. This type of behavior should never be tolerated and should be addressed because the attitude of the health care professionals in turn decides the wellbeing of the patients. Both the professionals and nurses need to be fully committed to their work to prevent problems. With all this in mind, it is the duty of the healthcare institutions to provide their patients with efficient and quality services along with monitoring the practices of the professionals. This can all be done by implementing hourly rounding. Even though the act of hourly rounding is not standardized, most institutions perform the same to ensure that the patients are taken care of.
