Document Content and Description Below

PHY 2048L Lab Report: Experiment 2 Acceleration due to gravity Purpose Measure the acceleration of a falling object assuming that the only force acting on the object is the gravitational force. ... Theory The theory behind this lab activity is to learn about free fall motion. Free fall involves motion of an object being dropped from rest at a certain position above the ground with air resistance not involved, only gravity acting on it (mg). This can be described by the following equation: Apparatus setup The equipment used in this experiment were a free fall adapter, two steel balls from different dimensions and mass, a balance, a 2m-meterstick, a stand with a long rod, interface boxes and a computer with the program PASCO 850 INTERFACE. Procedure 1. Determine mass and diameter of each steel ball. Determine the heights from which the balls will be dropped. 2. Place the ball in the Release mechanism and tighten it. Place the free fall adapter’s timing pad on the floor directly below the release mechanism. 3. Measure and Record using Pasco 850 Interface Measurement 1: Free fall time of big ball with heights h1: 1.625 m, h2,: 1.425 m, h3: 1.225 m, h4: 1.025 m, h5: 0.825. Measurement 2: Free fall time of the small ball with heights; h1: 1.625 m, h2: 1.425 m, h3: 1.225 m, h4: 1.025 m, h5: 0.825. [Show More]
