There two main data modeling approaches discussed in this week's reading are the Kimball approach and the Hub-and-Spoke Corporate Information Factory (CIF). There is also a hybrid architecture of Hub-and-spoke, and the Kimball approaches. According to the comparative study of data warehouses, the Kimball approach to data warehousing is defined as a copy of transactional data which is designed for query and analysis. It is a design model approach that is credited to Ralph Kimball. Tactical business decisions supported by requirements, data is integrated with individual business requirements, the structure of data is based on KPIs, source systems are stable, and low start-up costs are characteristics of the Kimball approach.
