Health Promotion Model Theory Critique The Health Promotion Model is a middle-range theory that was developed by Nola J. Pender that focuses around three categories of health promotion. Pender devel... oped this theory after seeing health care professionals intervening only after patients had developed acute or chronic health problems (Pender, 1990). She believed quality of life could be improved by the prevention of problems before they occurred. This theory is interesting and relevant to this graduate student because this theory is utilized in my everyday practice without realizing it. By critiquing Nola J. Pender’s Health Promotion Model theory based on the tool for evaluating theory by Chinn & Kramer, this graduate student has gained a better understanding of the theory and will continue to apply it to my clinical practice now and in the future. Chinn & Kramer’s method for evaluating a theory is analytical and simplistic and provides a comprehensive approach for evaluating Pender’s Health Promotion Model theory.
