Reflection paper about person with disability We live in a society where people are judges for who they are and if they seem to have any types of flaws tend to make up who the person is. People with... disabilities shouldn’t be judged by their disabilities. Our society has come a long way in accepting people with disabilities but we still have more to accomplish seeing as a harsh judgement still exists. We need to be able to live in a society where people do not judge, can accept others for who they are and help others who may need some assistance or guidance due to a disability, especially children. I have grown up in a more ‘normal’ setting and seeing people with disabilities was something that was rare to me. When I was younger, my thoughts on people with disabilities were that they could only be physically seen, nothing else such as mentally, intellectually, etc. disabilities. As I reached middle school, I realized how broad the world is and how many ways people were affected by disabilities. Some of them led a more normal life and some have a harder time adjusting. Just seeing and reading how so many are affected and how harder it is for them really opened up my mind and allowed me to have a wider perception of how broad things are in the world. I feel like as a whole, humans are generally uncomfortable with people who have disabilities. Let’s think of it this way, people live their life every day in their normal lives and then they come across a person with a disability and suddenly their life is interrupted, like it is such a barrier in their flow of life to come across someone different from themselves. I remember when I was in high school I had a classmate who had a disability. He is a boy but the way he acts and movement is different from the movement of a normal boy. His movement is very gentle. He is quiet in the room and he is always alone. I observe that he has very few friends and he doesn't like to go with his friends because he prefers to stay in the room. I think maybe he has a few friends because most of the people around him don’t want to go along with him. I wonder why he acts like that because I observed that he is different from us. One I talked to him, I asked him a lot of questions. One of the questions that I asked him that time was “is he really a boy?” I know it is a kind of awkward and upset question for him but I have a choice because I want to know about him. Then he reply that he is really a boy, he don’t why he acts in that ways, he say “ I try to move acts and move like other boys but it seem that I can’t control my movement” In that time our conversation, I observed that he is also slowly talking and his idea seems like not organize [Show More]
