so You should be able to identify the most common organism for the ones above that are infections from a choice of answers on the test.
You should be able to read a case study and know enough about how a disease occurs to recognize what disease is being described given the patient's gender, age, and how the illness presented.
You should be able to identify the FIRST LINE treatment for common disorders such as SABA for new onset asthma, Azithromycin for sinusitis, statins for high cholesterol after lifestyle modification fails.
You should be able to read a case study question, review several answers which are all likely correct, on some level, and choose the BEST answer that will be linked to a piece of data in the case study.......
You should be able to recognize annual screening guidelines and immunization recommendationsacross the lifespan.
When it comes to memorizing/retaining large volumes of information focus on pnemonics that shorten info into chunks you can digest such as the POUND Pneumonic for Migraine.....
You always remember the first thing you studied and the last thing you studied the MOST! So begin each day with a new beginning and a new ending. Don't always go: Pneumonia, HTN, Osteoporosis, Otitis Media for example because you'll wind up remembering Pneumonia and OM really well and the others not so much.
So rotate your study order.
One day start: Pneumonia, HTN, Osteoporosis, Otitis Media....
The next day start: HTN, Pneumonia, Otitis, Osteoporosis and so on.
Take it from me- . Rotate those beginning and endings....
Before the test:
Get a good night's rest! No amount of studying is better than being well rested and clear headed.
Eat well- Fuel your brain! Don't go into the exam on coffee and cigarettes- your brain needs protein, complex carbs etc.

Hello all!
I wanted to peek in as you're studying for the apea predictor exam and give some words of advice.
Both this board prep exam and the boards themselves focus on Common Ailments, common meds, common treatment plans in primary care do you see a theme here? I
KNOW it's hard to think "Where do I focus?"
But remember- the goal of the exam is ensure you're prepared to diagnose and treat what occurs most often in primary care......
So think about really freque ccurring diseases such as:
-HTN, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, Osteoporosis, Eczema, Asthma, Pneumonia, Sinusitis, Pink eye, Otitis Media, UTI, sprains, back pain, headache, depression, anxiety.......etc......

Read the questions carefully, but don't add to them. Avoid thinking "but what if he is diabetic?" If the patient were diabetic the case study would say so. The questions have all the info they need to answer effectively. And every part of the question is relevant.
They aren't throwing in a history of say, a tour in iraq, for no reason.
And finally, go with your first instinct. You're nurses. You have instincts and critical thinking skills. Use them.
Does this help?
