1. Screening - ✔✔-- the process by which the client is determined to be appropriate and eligible for
admission to a particular program
- counselor uses appropriate diagnostic criteria to determine whether the applicant's AOD use
constitutes abuse
- requires counselor's judgment and skill and is influenced by the program's environment and modality
- if applicant is found ineligible, counselor should be able to suggest an alternative
