During the infant period, the baby will receive nutrition from breast milk or formula for the first six months of life. After six months, the infant will be able to be introduced to solid foods. Nutrition is very important in the infant stage because it is essential for the infant’s adequate growth and development. Nutritional needs of newborns and infants is extremely important because they experience various and numerous growth changes that require adequate energy and nutrients (Ricci et al., 2021). If the infant is not receiving adequate nutrition, then their growth and development will be greatly delayed. As a result, the parents will need to ensure that their infant is adequately hydrated and fed in order to help them grow and develop. Breast feeding is recommended, although not all mothers are able to do this, so some infants need to receive formula. The nurse must ensure the patient knows how to mix and prepare the formula (Ricci et al., 2021). An infant’s nutritional intake will highly affect the growth and development of the infant.
