Hx ○ How long has N/V going on for (N/V won’t be chronic for gastritis) ○ What’s your NSAIDs & ETOH intake ■ Being specific … NSAIDs… do you take medications like; advil, ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin on a regular basis & what’s your regular basis ● Testing for H-pylori ○ Many have it but often lies dormant ■ Tests pt. Breaths into a bag drink a special beverage and exhale into another bag the drink they have has carbon molecules if they have h-pylori break down the carbon molecules and CO2 breathing out is higher *she’s says not to know* → many other tests as well ● CBC ○ Hbg → looking for anemia ● Stool for occult blood (FOBT) ○ Only if you can’t see the blood in the vomitus or stool ● Endoscopy ○ Not the first line due to it being invasive used lastly ○ If we do do an endoscopy often for those acutely bleeding (like seeing blood (frank bleeding) in the vomitus) PHARMACOLOGY: NSAIDs - Find new medication OR have the pt.
