Summary NR 601 Week 4 Midterm Review Transcript/MIDTERM REVIEW TRANSCRIPT The midterm exam is 50 questions, worth 100 points is worth 100 points, which is 10% of your course grade. The test covers c... ontent from weeks 1-4 content. I have just a couple of comments about how this clinical course exam works. You have already had your basic core courses, especially your 3 Ps. If there is content in the class where you do not understand the pathophysiology, the pharmacology or the physical exam details, it is important that you go back and review that, because it is assumed that you know this content. I will not be going through those fine details but there may be pathophysiology information that is important for you to understand in order to answer a question about heart failure, for example. Or you may need to know those fine physical exam differences to be able to determine diagnoses. Or perhaps side effect profiles of medication that is important for pharmacology, when we are specifically discussing Beers and issues with care of middleage people and the care of older adult people. It is very important that you know the differences between these two developmental categories because there are specifics for the elderly. There are situations that are distinct to the elderly so I recommend that as you study, if you read something in your Gorroll text that is general information about a disease and then you read your Kennedy text and Kennedy states in the elderly this is what you can expect, if it is different, make sure you understand how age matters. This is important not only for this exam but for your clinical practice and also for boards. Moving into the exam, I’m going to discuss this week by week. In week one you had a few topics to review. Aging is specifically regarding the aging process for the elderly and some of those changes that occur this includes the physiologic changes that you see and how that affects our patients in that age group. Exercise, specifically for the elderly, that is chapters 1 and chapter 3 of your Kennedy text there were weak one presentations, make sure you have reviewed those. You may see questions about the presentations that are included in this course. We want you to be watching them and we want you to find them useful so there may be questions that you see on the exam. Kennedy readings and the Gorroll readings were about chest disorders: COPD, bronchitis, those topics. We already discussed COPD and learned about PFTs and had an assignment in week1, definitions were discussed on the quiz and week two so you do not have to worry about that on the midterm. You have already been evaluated on that. What you do need to know for these respiratory issues –know the diagnostic criteria, know what x-ray findings should look like for this diagnosis and then specific follow-up so please keep that in mind as you are reviewing the content.
