AMB120 Bridging Cultures Assessment Item 3: Case Study 40% Brief description: This assignment in broken down into (i) a discussion of the case study (not compulsory, but highly recommende... d), and (ii) a written report on the case study. Please consider the following: - 2000 words (not including tables, in-text references or the reference list) - At least 10 references (minimum) in the form of journal articles and relevant books are expected to be utilized in writing the case study. - References should be appropriately cited using APA guidelines and listed in the reference list. - Only list references in the reference list which have been cited in the essay. (i) Discussion (in class): Discuss your personal reactions to the following questions. In each case where possible, try to relate these to any theory or information covered in the class. - Read the case study. - Discuss what is happening in the case? - Are there any background facts that are influencing the current problems? - What theories, concepts and frameworks are playing out in the case study? - What are the key problems or issues noted in the case? - Sort major problems from minor problems. - Are there any alternative solutions? Discuss advantages and disadvantages of each solution. - Thinking about and reading the case study, how does having some background information about cultural differences and cultural values impact your reading and interpretation? - Other issues? (ii) Written report on the case study: Part A: Discussion of issues (1500 words) Discuss the issues covered in the class discussion and other issues you found interesting or relevant and relate these to content and theory from class and /or your additional readings. References should be cited in this section. Write this section in third person (e.g. do not use “I” or “we” or “you”). 1. Identify the cross-cultural issues evident in the case study. - Highlight major issues (i.e., the core problem/s) and minor issues (i.e., symptoms of a much larger issue). 2. Discuss relevant theories, concepts and frameworks from the unit that you see playing out in the case study. - Apply theories, concepts and frameworks to the case study. - Avoid just descriptively defining theories, concepts and frameworks. 3. Identify a culturally intelligent way of handling the issues/dealing with the issues presented. - Justify the chosen solution/recommendation/s for dealing with issues presented. - Highlight the impact of your solution/recommendation/s (i.e., what will be the intended outcomes if your solution/recommendation/s were to be enacted). Note: Sub-headings are recommended in order to break down and guide your discussion more purposefully. Please note, academic references are required in PART A of this assignment, where you refer to key theories, concepts and/or frameworks. Part B: Post-Reflection (500 words) Please write this after the class discussion and ideally after writing the main part of the assignment. Write this section in first person (e.g. you can use “I”). Think about noting the following in your reflection: 1. What have you personally gained from reading and discussing this case study? 2. Reflect on your T2 results and include this in your discussion. 3. Reflect on your strategy and action orientated SMART goals, as identified in Assessment Item Two. Have you achieved your short-term goals? If so how did you achieve them? If not, why not? What would you do differently next time? 4. Will you consider changing any of your current goals or putting in place any new goals as a result of this course?
