Case Analysis – Apple Inc.: Managing a Global Supply Chain
Company Overview
Apple Inc. is an American multinational company which specialized in
technology, electronic and service industry which headquartered in Cupertino,
California. Apple is considered one of the Big Tech companies in the world with
Google, Amazon, Samsung, Microsoft as their main competitor. The company was
founded on April 1,1976 by Steve Jobs, and Steve Wozniak as the engineer, and
Ronald Wayne as their business partner. Wayne left the company after only 12-days,
created the first Apple logo and wrote Apple I manual. Then, in 1977, Apple II was
launched, the company was successfully incorporated, and the same year that Mark
Markkula joined the group as the main investor and business expertise provider for
the company. Apple II became a hit at that time, hold a status of the computer of
choice by lots of amateur programmers. From a motherboard with no fancy design –
even a monitor or a keyboard, to the latest Apple products like Mac, iPhone, iPad.
Looking at the accomplishment that Apple made, this means that the company
received large amount of success throughout the year.
Company Problems and Struggles
With all the success and achievement that Apple made, the company has
been through many struggles and downsides that almost bring down the company.
The first problem that Apple faced was the appearances of one of the big
competitors at that time which was International Business Machines Corporation.
IBM released their own computer, IBM PC in 1981. The product was using Intel’s
microprocessor, and disk operating system from Microsoft Corporation, then became
