Case Study 1 on Net Neutrality

Document Content and Description Below

Ameer Hammad ITN 267 Professor Thomas 10/30/20 Case Study 1 on Net Neutrality Net Neutrality had been revoked in 2018 and the result was a lot of outrage from the public since it does take away ... benefits that could affect smaller companies. This includes censoring and charging fees just to have better services. There are some positives and negatives about Net Neutrality, but it did spark up a lot of attention from the public. Not everyone agrees since it has even been forced to just accept the rule in some states. There have even been claims on why the repeal is for anyone’s own good. One of the examples being beneficial to consumers since it restores Federal Trade Commission authority right over internet service providers. Now there are issues that relate to the Net Neutrality repeal and why there are people who are concerned about what would happen once it did, but these issues also are not repealed just like net neutrality nearly two years ago? There are still worldwide issues that still exist today that a lot of people are aware of, but they don’t put that much action despite their attention. One of the major, yet opinionated, issues on the internet is pornography. It includes making the human body available for anyone to see online and often treated as objects. Should porn be repealed because it sometimes rubs people the wrong way? It doesn’t really provide benefits, yet it is still around available. There is also no political freedom for citizens to be expressive in the public. What about an increase in terrorism turning a lot of innocent citizens into victims that happen around the world? That kind of action ought to be placed more concern. Animal cruelty still happens despite organizations protecting animal rights. There are still domesticated pets still treated harshly. Should animal rights be repealed? Every person should have good health, but there is inequality in access to health care. These issues are all morally wrong in every way, no question asked that they should be repealed, and even should be corrected. Now before any opinions should be made, it is important to understand what Net Neutrality all is about. The fun fact is that the majority of Americans support Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality rules can be good for consumers. There was a conducted survey of 1,000 people asking how they would react if an ISP offered paid prioritization deals. If the companies are willing to pay for the fastest and best delivery of content to which resulted in 62% who didn’t think it should be allowed while 67% believe that the ISP should not be allowed to block any content of a competitor. By making sure that the IPS serve as impartial conduits, consumers gain the power to soak in whatever the internet has to offer. Going back to paid prioritization later, but there are rules that had been repealed which dramatically changed the internet. This includes blocking, where internet service providers should not discriminate against lawful content by blocking websites and apps, throttling is when service providers cannot slow the transmission of data due to the content, and paid prioritization is how service providers can’t create an internet fast lane for companies and even consumers who paid premiums. Then there’s transparency which is where the IPS are required to disclose fees, broadband speed, promotional rates, data caps, and network management to consumers. The Internet Conduct Rule is applied by the F.C.C. to ensure that IPS cannot interfere or disadvantage consumer’s access to legal online content or website’s ability to create it. But then again, IPS has been caught doing things that these rules prohibited back the past. If Net Neutrality rules were to get ignored, providers would sell the internet. There had been claims that Net Neutrality rules are an attempt to regulate the internet. This study source was downloaded by 100000793680026 from CourseHero.com on 06- [Show More]
