RUNNING HEAD: UNIT VII CASE STUDY
2
The case study on Mastering Teacher Leadership was performed in order to determine
how many local teachers would be interested in pursuing their Master’s degree at Wittenberg
University based on new Ohio regulatory requirements for teachers. The management-research
question hierarchy for this study includes:
1. Can Wittenberg University offer a high quality Master’s of Education program that is
better than local competitive universities?
2. How can we explore the opportunity of offering a high quality of Master of Arts degree in
Classroom Leadership?
3. What type of content should be included in this program to ensure its high quality?
4. How many estimated teachers would be interested in completing a graduate degree?
5. According to survey, how many teachers would be interested in completing a graduate
degree at Wittenberg University?
6. Should we lower the cost of the program and offer more online classes for those with
family responsibilities?
Previously, Wittenberg University has not offered a graduate degree in education and
there has been no research into implementing this program. In order to define the research
question, information will need to be collected that includes:
What can be done to interest more teachers in enrolling in the Master’s program at
Wittenberg?
How do teachers compare Wittenberg with its competitors?
Surveys were mailed to 2,000 practicing teachers in a four-county area which concluded that
21.2% of 763 teachers would enroll and 57.7% might enroll. Those who concluded they would
not enroll is due to high cost, current Master’s degree, or family responsibilities. Therefore, the
school has to determine what will make the program more competitive and more appealing for
teachers to enroll.
