In order to uphold our civic duty we must make it out to the polls and vote, but before any of that, we must also do the research. In the past, I have relied on newspapers and television to make my voting decisions. I was very unaware of the easy, at hand research available to inform myself. Through the research I conducted to write a knowledgeable paper about voting, my home district, and the elected officials in my hometown, I learned how easy it is to become an informed voter as well as being able to find my voice through politics in the future. The key to being a successful informed voter is to ensure the unbiased reports of your sources. In my research I use two sources you have provided to gather my information. The first source is Vote Smart, a website that has compiled biographies, votes, positions, ratings, speeches, and funding. The second source is The Almanac of American Politics 2016. This resources has just about everything you need to know about your state, the officials, data, and much more. Through using these resources, I will better understand my home state of North Carolina’s voting past, elected officials, and how to properly research information for future candidates. North Carolina Political Information Political History Over time North Carolina has been a primarily Republican state, but every so often the votes swing towards the Democratic side.
