Written Assignment Unit 3 EDUC 5210
In this paper, you will apply either a social learning or constructivist approach to one of your
lesson plans. Think of a lesson you typically complete with students; perhaps one you have done
a few times. Explain how you currently deliver the lesson and then share how either aspect of
social learning or constructivism could improve the lesson. What changes would you make to
your delivery approach, assessment strategy, or classroom management? Justify your reasoning
with appropriate evidence from the readings. Include at least two outside sources in your paper.
Lesson Plan with Constructivist Approach
Learning is the process through which learners gain knowledge and understanding of the world around
them. A lesson plan is a teacher’s guide to ensure effective learning. A teacher plans the lesson following
a learning theory that she believes in. This paper is an attempt to present a lesson plan designed with a
learner-centered approach and discuss the assumptions and principles of constructive learning theory as
incorporated in the same lesson plan. A lesson plan is a teaching-learning guide providing a detailed
description of what students will learn how they will learn, and how the learning will be measured. The
purpose of a lesson plan is to engage the students in meaningful and active learning (Stauffer, 2019).
Learning is active when “students are dynamic participants in their learning” and their minds are actively
engaged in monitoring and reflecting on the learning process and the outcomes (UNT Teaching
Commons, n.d.). Keeping these objectives in mind, my lesson plan will focus on delivering a lesson about
a noun. This essay will also; view how I use my lesson plan to engage with the learners and how I
could effectively use constructivism to improve the lesson.
According to Gogus (2012) “constructivism is a concept that focuses on the importance of the
individual knowledge, beliefs, and skills through the experience of learning. The theory believes
that, an individual can accept new ideas or fit them into their established views of the world.”
Constructivist teaching encourages critical thinking and motivates independent learners. A
constructivist teacher constantly checks and motivates the student by asking them to reflect on
