Lab 5: Rotational Motion Team Members: Michael Engelbert, Alexandra Vasknetz, Luis Perez Gonzalez, Van Pham, Jose Herrera ENGR 216 - 301 Introduction: For this lab, we will use our knowledge of an ... gular velocity and moments of inertia in order to prove that angular momentum is conserved. This is a fundamental concept that we needed to prove with the information that we were given regarding the L-shaped object in order to move on to find out the moments of inertia for our other objects. After proving the law of conservation of angular momentum, we will be able to use algebraic equations, along with finding the before and after angular velocities. Procedure Center of Mass: In order to find the center of mass for the circle, pentagon, and L shapes, our group had to carefully analyze the videos provided. After viewing the videos, we were able to identify which dot was the center of mass by seeing which dot was not rotating in a circle. A simple way to find the center of mass if it wasn’t given in our data would be to place the circle, pentagon, and the L shapes on the air table. Our group would start the airtable and spin each shape individually. We would carefully inspect which dot would not be rotating in a circle. The dot that would not be rotating is considered the center of mass. This process would be repeated for the circle, pentagon and L shape. [Show More]
