PHYS 103ALab 7_ Archimedes Principle and Density-REVIEWED BY EXPERTS 2021

Document Content and Description Below

Lab 7: Archimedes’ Principle and Density Name: Date of Experiment: 09/18/2020 Course & Section Number: 103A-003 Group ID: X3 Date of Report Submission: 09/25/2020 Instructor’s Name: 1. Intr... oduction 1.1. Objectives The purpose of this lab was to understand the Archimedes’ Principle and to calculate the density of unknown substances using both the Archimedes’ Principle and density definition. 1.2. Theoretical Background When an object is submerged in fluid, it experiences both upward and downward forces which are called gravitational force (or gravity) and buoyant force (or buoyancy). According to the Archimedes’ Principle, the buoyant force on an object submerged in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. The following equation is used to determine the force of buoyancy: B = W L = m L g = ρ L V 0 g Where B is the force of buoyancy, W L and m L are the weight and mass of displaced fluid, ρ L is the density of the fluid, and V 0 is the volume of the fluid displaced by the submerged object.
