APUSH Analyze the effectiveness of U.S foreign policy during the Cold War through the actions of the office of the President of the United States. Confine your answer to the years 1947-1989. After... the glorious victory from the Allies against the Axis Power in World War II, America was faced with another daunting problem, the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union and America had a conflicting ideology between Democracy and Communism. This led to the Cold War, a war of words, without any actual fighting, but instead superpowers pitting foreign policies against each other. During the Cold War, there was a number of presidents that implemented different ideas and foreign policies. Truman believed in the idea of Containment, with the Marshall Plan. Eisenhower believed in the idea of Brinkmanship, increasing the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union, with the Arms Race.
