Report for Experiment #16 Introduction The purpose of this experiment is to study electric potential between two electrodes and its relation with electric field. We are also going to study the el ... ectric field between electrodes. In Investigation 1, the theory is that electric field should be constant throughout and that the equipotential lines are parallel to the electrodes. We find this by working with the voltmeter. The slope of the graph between Volts and the average distance should give the electric field. In Investigation 2, the theory is similar to the first Investigation, but this time we will be working with circular brass electrodes. Instead of a straight line, the equipotential should be in a circle. The graph E vs. 1/r should give a linear function. Investigation 1 Setup & Procedure We are provided with two straight brass electrodes, a power supply (10V), four connecting wires, a digital multimeter, conducting paper, a white pencil and a soft rubber pad. We first place the paper on the pad and the two electrodes go in middle of the pad and is 10cm apart. We then connect the power supply to the two electrodes where left is negative and right is positive. After that, we connect the voltmeter ground to the negative electrode and connect the probe-tipped wired o the V input of the voltmeter. The voltmeter should be set to 10V and the precision to 50V max. We then trace equipotential lines for 3-7V. Using this information, we found the distance of the equipotential line from the electrode, the average distance and the electric field.
