Doane University CHEM 330 Basic Concepts Worksheet 4.2

Document Content and Description Below

Basic Concepts Worksheet 4.2 Description: Gluconeogenesis is the process which your body takes pyruvate and turns it back to the building blocks needed for carbohydrates. This allows your... body to remake glucose to meet metabolic demands if not enough carbohydrates are taken up by your body. Gluconeogenesis differs in a few steps from just a straight reversal of glycolysis because some of the enzymatic reactions done in glycolysis favor the formation of pyruvate too heavy to be done in reverse. Instructions: Using good old fashioned pen and paper (pencil is ok too), draw in the structure of each metabolic intermediate in the gluconeogenesis pathway in the figure below (use figure 17.1 for an example). In addition, fill in the missing enzymes from the picture below (black box), also circle any enzyme that is different than one in glycolysis. Take a photo of your work (make sure it is completely readable!) and submit (note: the app, “Turbo Scan”, works very well, small cost; “iScanner” is also available for free). What to submit: Submit the structures and enzymes as a PDF or image. [Show More]
