Pharmakinetics: how meds move in body 1st Gen Meds: many end in –azine • Chlorpromazine: primarily works on dopamine system to lower dopamine (pathways D2 and D4), lowering transmitter necessar ... y for normal movements o S/E for all 1st gen meds ▪ EPS: extra pyramidal side effects • Dystonia: feels like have thick tongue and stiff body, neck goes to side (torticalis), eyes rolling in back of head (oculogyric), arched back • Tx: anticholinergics: Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) (IM or PO) and Benztropine (used more often b/c less sedating than Diphenhydramine) o S/E: dry mouth, urinary retention, blurred vision, sedation • Akathesia: feeling like you always have to move, can be treated w/ benzodiazpines • Parkinsons: flat affect/blunt affect, cannot be treated b/c you would want to elevate dopamine, but meds goal is to decrease it [Show More]
