C228 Task One (ASSURED A)
B. Needs and Risks Assessment
Sentinel City is an imaginary computer based mockup of a community. This simulation
is used to practice and assess the needs of the local public and then implement ways to initiate
change for the better of the community.
The total population within Sentinel City is 634,265 people (Sentinel City Simulation,
2017). 7.4% of the population is under 5 years of age. 21.7% of the population is under 18 years
of age. Persons over the age of 65 make up 10.5% of the population (Sentinel City Simulation,
2017). Approximately 80.6% of the population is white or Caucasian, 10.4% is black or African
American, 2% Asian, 0.2%, 2 or more races 3.1% and Hispanic 31.5% (Sentinel City
Simulation, 2017). The median household income of Sentinel City is $49,091. Nearly 19% of
the population reports living below the poverty level (Sentinel City Simulation, 2017).
Sentinel city is comprised of 4 major neighborhoods within the city. These
neighborhoods are diverse from one another. They include Nightingale Square, Acer Tech
Center, Casper Park District and Industrial Heights.
Nightingale Square is populated with 103,974 people (Sentinel City Simulation, 2017). It
is the third largest neighborhood out of the four. The median household income is $269,550
which makes Nightingale Square the wealthiest of the neighborhoods. This neighborhood has the
least amount of uninsured residents at 0.7 %( Sentinel City Simulation, 2017). Nightingale
Square neighborhood features Joe’s Grocery store which provide residents with fresh meats,

residents the Department of Parks and Recreation. This provides the residents and their families
an outdoor area to exercise and enjoy.Task One 3

the 2nd largest neighborhood in Sentinel City. $166,300 is the median household income. Acer
Tech Center has 1.5% of its population un-insured (Sentinel City Simulation, 2017). This
community features Sentinel City Hospital, Sentinel City Hall, a restaurant named “Lilly’s” and
local radio station BUZZ 96.5 FM.
Casper Park District has the largest amount of residents at 352,643(Sentinel City
Simulation, 2017). The median household income is $80,134. Casper Park District has 22.7%
of its population without health insurance. Casper Park offers ABC Day Care. It also contains the
affordable housing projects.
Industrial heights is the least populated neighborhood of the four. The population is
38,855 people (Sentinel City Simulation, 2017). . Industrial heights is the poorest of the four
communities with the median household income falling at $24,672. This community has the
highest rate of un-insured persons at 37.5% (Sentinel City Simulation, 2017). Industrial Heights
