As a leader, to build a relationship with your team, you must connect with them. This is done by taking the time out to share your vision, mission, values, and expectations of where you want the team to go. Through sharing, you take the time to find out what each member's vision is and helping them align their practice to your vision as the leader. Then you begin to form a relationship individually with each member finding out what and where they are looking to accomplish for the immediate future and end future goals. This is how you learn what type of leadership encouragement, coaching, and mentoring they need, which is how you begin to show some vulnerability to them from getting to know each other. As a leader, this shows having a sympathetic presence and engagement, which are two attributes of the Person-Centred Practice Framework developed by McCormack, 2017. Through Human-Centered Leadership, based on complex adaptive systems (CAS), leaders can create an environment that encourages their team to report concerns or problems without blame or shame. Also, invest in each individual's personal growth to create a learning atmosphere, building a team that binds wisdom, and developing innovative ideas that impact their practice (Kennedy et al., 2020).
