Physics > Lab Report > physics Lab# 4 Experiment 4 Force table (All)
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to use the force table pulleys to determine vectors. Also to add a set of vectors using three methods--- graphical, analytical, and experimental to find th... e resultant vector. Theory: Vectors are ubiquitous in physics, and, in addition, you find them everywhere. Velocity, acceleration, displacement and force are all vector quantities Scalar quantity can be specified by its magnitude alone such as time (t), mass(m), volume(V), etc. A vector is a quantity that must be specified by both its magnitude and direction such as force (F), Velocity (v), acceleration of gravity (g), etc. Parallelogram Method is to add two vectors A+B, the parallelogram of which vector (A) and Vector (B) are adjacent sides that are formed. The arrow diagonal of the parallelogram R is the resultant vector or vector sum of A+ B, R=A + B Triangle method and polygon method is an equivalent method of finding R is the vectors to be added “ head to tail’ the resultant vector R is drawn from the tail of A to the head of B. IF more than two vectors are added, the head to tail method forms a polygon where the resultant vector R is drawn the tail of the first vector ( A ) to the head of the last vector (C). The analytical way to find the resultant is to use the law of cosines, [Show More]
