This visit, and those after that, later came to be known as the revelations (Nawwab, Speers, & Hoye, 2014). At first, Muhammed was skeptical, but as more revelations encouraged him to proclaim the oneness of God, his following grew from the poor to the most prominent men of Mecca. Like other prophets, Moses and Jesus, Muhammed and his followers were persecuted and pushed away from their Mecca in search of religious freedom.
