Physics > Lab Experiment > PHYSICS : RADIATION EXPERIMENT (All)
Generally, radiation is the term used to refer to the transmission of energy that is emitted from a source and could be in the form of waves or particles. This energy travels through space and could p ... enetrate through different materials. Among the most common types of radiation are the waves that are emitted by the light source (Sun). These types encompass those that have longer wavelengths, such as radiowave and microwave; and those with shorter wavelengths, such as X-ray and gamma ray (Lenaerts & Coucke, 2014, p. 25). Radioactivity is a process which results to radiation. Radioactivity or radioactive decay refers to decay of radioactive materials and thus results to the spontaneous emission of energy. Radioactivity is the result of the unstable nuclei an element has. This instability may be due to the presence of more protons or neutrons in the nucleus. As such, the nuclei undergo the process of making the element stable through the emission of alpha particles, beta particles, or gamma ray. [Show More]
