Answer & Explanation Verified Solved by verified expert Rated Helpful For her "Behavioral System Model," which was first formulated in 1968, Dorothy E. Johnson is well known. It promotes encouragi... ng the patient's successful and productive behavioral functioning to avoid disease and emphasizes the importance of research-based expertise on the patient effects of nursing care. The Behavioral Method Model of Johnson is a nursing care model that encourages the promotion of effective and effective behavioral functioning in the patient to prevent disease. The patient is characterized as a behavioral system consisting of seven subsystems of behavior: affiliative, dependent, ingestive, eliminative, sexual, violent, and accomplishment. Defense from noxious influences, provision for a nurturing environment, and stimulus for development are the three functional criteria for each subsystem. An imbalance in any of the subsystems of actions results in disequilibrium. The role of nursing is to help the client return to a state of equilibrium. The theory of Dorothy Johnson described nursing as an external regulatory force that acts to maintain at an optimal level the arrangement and integration of the activities of the patient under circumstances under which the conduct poses a threat to physical or social health or in which disease is found. It also states that every person has patterned, purposeful, repetitive ways of acting that comprise a particular behavioral framework for that person. Goals. With the assumption that nursing was an occupation that made a distinctive contribution to the wellbeing of society, Dorothy Johnson began her work on the model. Nursing, therefore, had an explicit purpose of patient welfare intervention. According to the Behavior System Model, the aims of nursing are fourfold: (1) Assisting the patient whose behavior is proportional to social demands. (2) To benefit patients who are able to alter their actions in ways that support biological imperatives. (3) To support the patient who is able to benefit to the fullest degree from the experience and abilities of the doctor during illness. And (4) To support a patient whose conduct does not reflect needless suffering as a result of illness. Assumptions of the Behavioral System Model Johnson identified several assumptions that are critical to understanding the individual's nature and function as a behavioral system: (1) There is "organization, interaction, interdependence and incorporation of the components and components of behaviors that make up the system. (2) A system "tends to achieve a balance between the various forces that work within and upon it, and that man seeks to contain the system. (3)A behavioral structure is important for man, which needs and results in some degree of regularity and constancy in actions. It is functionally important because, both in social life and for the individual, it serves a useful purpose. (4) The balance of the system reflects adjustments and adaptations that are in some way and to some degree successful. Major concepts. The core principles and meanings of the Johnson nursing model, including the description of its metaparadigm for nursing, are as follows: Nursing. [Show More]
