Title: Inclusive Healthcare to Save Lives Executive Summary: There are many obstacles to reliable healthcare for transgender people that lead to delaying or avoiding needed medical care. The bigge... st obstacles transgender people face is the lack of access to health care due to the lack health care personnel who are significantly knowledgeable about transgender health issues (Transgender Health, 2019). Another issue for transgender people is the fear of being discriminated against when seeking medical help (Herman et al. 2015). This issue will save lives if it is addressed appropriately. Policies need to be created to ensure that doctor’s offices and hospitals have gender neutral bathrooms, are trained on using gender inclusive pronouns, and have inclusive paperwork. A transgender specific care board made up of community members need to oversee transgender health care in both public and private health systems. Hospitals and local public health authorities could review gender affirming care procedures and review issues, or complaints made transgender patients. Scope of Problem: Transgender people are shown to have poorer overall health than the average population. They are also eight times more likely to be experiencing serious psychological distress (Herman et al. 2015).
