Brooke Robertson 1/13/2021 The School as a Community of Care Task 1 A) Identify 3 videos. a. Video 1 b. Video 3 c. Video 6 B) Reflect on your video observations by doing the following: a. Discuss specific examples of how the teachers in the videos effectively incorporated the needs of individual learners within their learning environments, including at least one example of each of the following from any of the three videos: i. cultural needs ii. social needs iii. emotional needs Video 1- In video 1, the teacher was using a book that included Spanish words and Hispanic culture to relate back to her students and get them to become more engaged. She had the class work in small groups to get them to interact and work on some social skills before sharing their answers with the class. This helped with social skills, but also helps with emotional skills by creating a less stressful situation, especially for the English Language Learners that may be more nervous about sharing in front of the class. Video 3- In video 3, the teacher is incorporating social skills by allowing her students to work with a partner. She even tells a student not to “tell” his partner to do something, but to “ask” him and to compromise to solve their problem. Before she lets them work on their own, she goes over an example step-by-step with the entire class to help the students get ideas and be more comfortable with what they are doing. This can help with the students’ emotional needs by making them less nervous and be more sure of their capabilities. She incorporates culture by giving examples of other twisted fairytale books that changed up the culture from the original. This may allow the students to come up with something creative that relates to them. If it relates to their own culture, they are more likely to be more interested and try harder. Video 6- In video 6, the teacher is incorporating culture by talking about how drugs, smoking, and drinking alcohol can affect your life. This may relate to a student’s home life or family member and is also shaping their future thoughts. The teacher asks how toe ads appeal to certain cultures and
