ECD 315 Thematic Unit ECD 315: Curriculum Planning and Design for Early Learners Thematic Unit The Douglas School District incorporates the Common Core State Standards Initiative of English Langua... ge Arts Standards into their classrooms. That is why when I became the new teacher of the 1st grade class there, I began to incorporate those standards into my curriculum. Once students reach the 1st grade, they should have somewhat of a greater understanding of how to write a little and how to read a little, which are developmental milestones (Jaruszewicz, 2012), that they have achieved prior to reaching first grade.
