While the benefits of working ... at home, such as avoiding a daily commute and having a flexible schedule, seem clear for employees, the advantages for the employers don't always seem so obvious. Companies should provide more opportunities to work from home because it opens access to a wider pool of potential applicants, is more cost efficient for employees and employers, and can lead to increased productivity. It's true that younger generations have grown up with the ability to communicate with each other from practically anywhere, so it would make sense that they would expect the same ease and efficiency in a work environment. Flexibility is a huge factor that these younger people look for when considering a new job or role. Offering positions with a flexible benefit like working from home can help companies attract these younger generations that might not otherwise be interested in a role. Working remotely also gives companies the opportunity to hire outside of normal commuting distance. Where they may have been limited to a 10 to 20 mile circumference, they will be able to look nation (or international) wide. This can be particularly beneficial for locations lacking in people with specific skill sets needed. Not only would companies find hiring opportunities otherwise closed to them, they could also SAVE money.
