Obesity brings along with it the opportunity for multiple co-morbidities. Obesity has serious genetic implications along with environmental factors contributing to the health disparity. Obesity has been on the rise in the United States for the last 20 years and has reached epidemic proportions ("CDC," 2018, p. 9). A1. Pathophysiology. Obesity being defined as a body mass index exceeding 30, occurs when the body is in a constant state of caloric excess.
