Policy_Brief.docx D025 Policy Brief: Ohios Infant Mortality Rate Western Governors University D025: Essentials of Advanced Nursing Roles and Interprofessional Practice  Policy Brief: Ohios ... Infant Mortality Rate Executive Summary Summary of the Context and Scope of the SDOH in My Community According to the Center for Disease Control, lack of education in newly expectant and newly post-partum mothers (CDC, 2019) is resulting in 6.9% of infants born in Ohio not reaching their first birthday (CDC, 2020). In fact, Ohio is the 9th worst state for keeping our infants alive, with our own Montgomery County exceeding Ohios IMR rate at 7.3% (Ohio Department of Health, 2019). Action must be taken to save our most vulnerable citizens. Current policies in Ohio are not improving this social detriment of health, and thus not reducing the infant mortality rate. Maternal education has proven to significantly decrease the IMR by 51% (Fischetti, 2011). This is where we should start. I am proposing an educational incentive program that will assist and monitor these mothers from entry into the program until the first birthday of their infants. The assistance will include education days, access to obstetric physicians during pregnancy and pediatricians after delivery, supportive social opportunities for sharing with like-women, home visits during and after pregnancy, and transportation for each of these assistance aspects of the program. The incentive for these mothers to fully and successfully participate. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
