C792_task_2_in.docx Data Modeling and Database Management Systems Western Governors University Data Modeling and Database Management Systems Flowchart Aspects Flowcharts are a useful tool to illustrate a visual representation of a certain process and to help understand the existing process and find potential ways to improve it (Institution for Healthcare Improvement, 2020). Healthcare organizations may benefit from the use of flowcharts by offering a step-by-step analysis and identifying insufficiencies (Digital Healthcare Research, 2020). This particular flowchart outlines the workflow process for emergency severity index (ESI) Level 3 patients. In the flowchart, the steps of the process are represented by different shapes, each which symbolize a different action. The flowchart starts with an oval indicating the beginning or end of the workflow. The rectangle symbolizes a process taking place, the diamond indicates a decision is to be made, the bullet shape represents a delay in the process, and lastly, the flowchart ends with another oval to represent the end of the workflow process. The workflow begins upon a patients arrival to the emergency department (ED). The process starts with 5 patients who are then registered by the receptionist into the healthcare information system (HIS). This step takes about 21.4 minutes to complete. After the registration, the patient must wait 32.6 minutes, which increases their time spent in the ED. The triage nurse will then initiate the patients c. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
