C821_Feild_Experience._Task_1_resubmission__1_.docx C821 The Invisible Patient Harm: Preventing Implicit Bias in Healthcare Western Governors University College of Health Professions The Invisible Patient Harm: Preventing Implicit Bias in Healthcare Addressed Gap After reviewing the current nursing curriculum, it was identified that implicit bias training and education is not addressed in the nursing program which may be a disservice to future nurses, the healthcare industry, and patients. Nursing education that does not sufficiently address implicit bias assists in continuation of disparities in healthcare (Broholm, Gatewood, Herman, & Yingling, 2019). Students in this registered nurse program are not educated about implicit biases and the effects of implicit bias in patient care and outcomes across the healthcare continuums. As a result of this finding, this project proposal will introduce implicit bias training and mitigation strategies as a course in the first semester and implicit bias concepts will be integrated into all specialty courses for all of the nursing programs. This course is designed to be supported by online modules, role playing with simulation, debriefings, and cases study discussions that are specific to the prevailing myths and misconceptions of populations that leads to disparities in healthcare, treatments, and outcomes.
