Grade and Level Content The instructional activity that I will be doing will be for second grade science curriculum. A2. Goal The goal of this activity is for students to be able to describe and identify the different types of soil. A3. Description of Students First, I will hand out a worksheet on different types of soil (clay, sand, silt). We will then read over the worksheet and go over the different soils as a whole class. On the board, I will draw a graph with labels. The graph will look like this: Samples Particle Size? Feel? Dries? #1 #2 #3 The students will then be divided into small groups. I will explain that the groups will be looking at three different samples of soil. They will be observing them for particle size, their feel, and how they each hold water. I will demonstrate in front of them how they are supposed to observe each part of all three samples. I will show them how to use a magnifying glass to determine the samples particle size. I will also explain the difference of particles and clumps and how if you can see the particles after breaking a clump down.
