IT_600_9_2_Final_Submission_Technical_Evaluation_of_an_Operating_System.docx IT-600 IT-600-Q2721 Operating Systems 20TW2 9-2 Final Project: Submission: Technical Evaluation of an Operating System Background Top Secret, Inc. (TSI) has some business-related challenges facing the organization. One business related challenge is that TSI does not work well in the back office. TSI took some cost cutting measures that has led to this current situation. The company decided to not use enterprise-class operating systems for its back-office operations. This has resulted in TSI Operating system lacking many features of a modern operating system. This does not take advantage of the latest architectural optimizations in the latest hardware. General Purpose Operating System (GPOS) and the TSI OS features have a huge difference when it relates to certain features. For example, Multi Programming and Multiprocessing are not supported by TSI OS. This means the TSI OS cannot more than one program at a time nor have more than one processor on a physical device. This requires TSI to buy antiquated hardware to run its data center. The TSI OS admins must constantly reboot the operating systems because they crash due to insufficient memory. This is because the TSI OS uses a flat memory model without paging. The TSI OS has issues with its call system because it only supports a basic system call interface. Multiprogramming The OS that TSI is utilizing is capable of only supporting one program at a time.
