JPT2.docx JPT2 Communication Skills for ASD Children Assessment Code: JPT2 Communication Skills for ASD Children Instructional Problem Summary Needs Analysis Findings All students in public schools must be taught in an inclusive environment as much as possible. Abraham (2004) says that a child with a disability is often excluded from ordinary childhood opportunities, including the love and nurture that naturally happens by merely being a child. Once they start school, they are excluded from the standard classroom and taught in a different environment. When the time comes for this child to become an adult, they are forced into a world with expectations they are not familiar with and are at a disadvantage because they were not raised in a regular school setting with a normal childhood and ordinary growth opportunities. The children in the autism program have spent the majority of their school years isolated from their peers. When the program was moved into the school building last year, it became quite challenging for the students. They went from being around approximately ten different people a day to around 500. The overwhelming nature of this has caused emotional outbursts with the children screaming or running away and hiding due to the overstimulation that they are not used to. These outbursts are taking away from the students' education because they cannot participate in the general education classroom.
