Description of the chosen outbreak. â—‹ Name: Zika Virus â—‹ The two countries involved: Brazil and United States â—‹The date the outbreak began from the original source and the dates it was discovered in each subsequent country: April 2015 in Brazil and July 2016 in the USA. (Technically the first was in 1964 in Uganda but was not considered a pandemic back then because it did not spread to subsequent countries). â—‹Number of cases reported during these outbreaks: In April 2015 in Brazil there were 1400 by September 17, 2016. In July of 2016 in Florida there were 4 cases initially. B1: Epidemiological Determinants and Risk Factors There are several factors that play a role in an international outbreak and we will discuss those further now. Risk factors along with transmission are both known as epidemiological determinants, those along with infectivity, virulence, mode of transmission, climate conditions, antigenic stability and other variables all together can make the perfect storm for rapid spread of a virus.
