Although the US has the patent on the virus (US201205102A1- US patent publication) the virus was first collected by Jean-Jacques Muyembe . Jean-Jacques Muyembe is a Congolese doctor that discovered the Ebola Virus in 1976. He went to school in Belgium. He made the decision to go back to Congo. When he first got there is when he was challenged with the strange new virus. Muyembe was the first doctor to collect a sample of the Ebola virus. He named the virus “Ebola “after the Ebola River . “ Legbala in native language. This was the area of Congo where the virus originated. Muyembe played crucial role in discovering Ebola. His contribution to the mapping and identification of the virus is often overlooked. I will be discussing the transmission of the virus from Africa to the USA during the 2014-2016 outbreak. This is the longest out- break so far. B. Description of a chosen international outbreak The Ebola virus was discovered early in 1976 by Jean-Jacques Muyembe. He noted that the he named the disease because of the river in Congo that the disease originated from. He sent the collected blood samples to other labs in Belgium and France because the, Congolese laboratory, at that time lacked the infrastructure to combat such a deadly disease.
