Ebola 2014-2015 outbreak B. Description of a chosen international outbreak The Zaire ebolavirus(EBOV) was first reported in Guinea when an 18-month-old boy came down with it. It is believed to have originated from bats in the area. Five additional cases were linked in the same area and an official alert was announced on January 24, 2014, according to the CDC (2019). In July of 2014, Liberia and Sierra Leone were starting to report cases in the capital areas of each of these countries. Spread was reported in other countries, but the numbers were low and did not cause an outbreak in these areas. Total number of cases with this outbreak as of April 4th, 2016 were estimated to be around 28,652. Deaths cases were estimated to be 11,325 which gives this outbreak approximately a 40% mortality rate according to Kaner & Schaack (2016). B1.
