The nurse likely violates organizational compliance because she is discussing the phone call in front of another patient. There are numerous provisions within Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and therefore many ways to violate it. Since the scenario does not specifically say if the nurse used the patients name and/ or other Personal Health Information (PHI), it is not a clear if there is a HIPAA violation. This mistake may not have been a HIPAA violation, but it is clearly an organizational compliance issue which does not carry any fines but needs to be addressed.
